Where health professionals identify that a young child, under compulsory school age, may have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) the Health Service has duties outlined in the Children & Families Act (2014) and the SEND Code of Practice (2015), to prioritise the notification to the Local Authority.

The purpose of the SEND Notification is to ensure that the local authority is aware of children with special educational needs or disabilities, and facilitate access to appropriate support arrangements. In line with the GDPR, parental consent should be sought prior to any service offer or panel discussion from the LA. It is not the function of the SEND notification to serve as a recommendation for a particular provision.
