Early Help Support for Young Carers


A young carer is child or young person under18 years old, who has a significant caring role for another person, who suffers from physical disability, mental health problems, substance misuse or any other debilitating or long term illness”

 Young Carers are a target group for Early Help. They can provide young carers with:

  • An assessment of their needs.
  • One to one support for young carers with a high level of need.
  • Advice to support young carers in their caring role.
  • Information about other support services and activities they engage in.

Referral Details

In order to make a referral to Children’s Services the referrer will need to register online using the Family Information Service website – and complete a M.A.R.F.

Attached is an awareness raising presentation that gives suggestions for how to identify and support Young Carers and the support that is available in Early Help and the Voluntary Sector, the MACA and PANOC toolkit which helps engage young carers in discussions about their caring responsibilities and some example resources.
