The AWRC is specialist women’s organisation providing support to BME (Black, Minority, and Ethnic) women and children and we have open door policy for all women who suffer from Domestic Violence and Harmful Practices. The centre was set up in 1980 and provides a free, confidential and professional service to women and children through the provision of advice and information, counselling, advocacy, outreach and support services.
The AWRC works on issues around violence against women (which include domestic & sexual violence, forced marriages, honour based violence) and also addresses the challenges associated with violence such as homelessness, welfare benefits, child contact, immigration etc. The AWRC has decades of experience on working on issues of abuse, particularly in the ways that they affect BME women.
