Westminster Amalgamated Charity could help you if you currently live, work or study in the London Borough of Westminster or if you have previously lived or worked in this borough for a total of five years or more.
Grants are awarded to individuals who are on a low income or in receipt of benefits, on a low income/benefits and have a disability, or are homeless (but residing in a hostel).
Grants can be made towards:
- Purchasing clothing.
- Purchasing essential household items (furniture, white goods, kitchen equipment).
- Decorating/carpeting/flooring. (Please be aware that any flooring grant awarded will be a contribution only towards the total amount. Referring agencies should make applications elsewhere for any balance.)
Grants range typically between £100 and £400 and all grants are made at Trustees' discretion.
The application process
The application form should be completed by a referring agency. This must be a recognised agency such as Social Services, Citizens Advice Bureau, Housing Association, Hostel or any registered charity working in Westminster. As a charity we are not in a position to replace statutory funding and we require all individual applicants to be eligible for and in receipt of benefits. In addition, we expect applicants, where appropriate, to have made an application to Westminster City Council’s Local Support Payments Scheme BEFORE making an application for a grant.
The Charity does NOT give emergency cash grants or crisis loans.
The Charity does not award grants retrospectively.
The grant programme is now closed for 2022. Deadlines for submitting applications for 2023 will be posted here towards the end of the year.
Further information about the charity
Westminster Amalgamated Charity in its present form dates from 1961 following the amalgamation of seven existing Westminster charities. The aim of the Charity today is to continue the activity common to all the predecessor charities, namely the relief of need in Westminster by way of Grants, both for individuals and for organisations.
The Charity tries to help all those in need in Westminster, providing the eligibility criteria have been met. Grants are awarded on a one-off basis at Trustees' discretion and beneficiaries should not expect to receive continuous or year-on-year funding.
Westminster Amalgamated Charity is an independent, registered charity. It is not part of or related to Westminster City Council or the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
