Rainbow house nursery provides specialist support for children with disabilities, alongside an inclusive nursery provision for children aged 0 up to 5 years old. We work closely with health services including speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and Occupational therapists as well as local schools and the SEN service to ensure that children are supported in going through the EHC assessment process and are able to transition into school from the nursery.

Rainbow also provides open drop in sessions for parents and children to attend on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons 1-3pm.

Within Rainbow family centre a Family Services Team and Early Years Keyworker are also available to support and advise parents who may require support around many issues including managing their children’s diagnosis, managing multiple appointments and working with lots of different professionals.

All staff are experienced in and trained to understand and meet the needs of children with disability needs

Who is this service available to?

The age group for the nursery is 0-5 year olds.  There are a limited number of specialist places for children with complex needs. Parents/Carers can purchase places where they want to self fund.

Places are available for 2, 3, and 4 year old government funded 15 hour places and SEND children are welcome to access these places.

When is this service available?

The specialist nursery is open all year round for 51 weeks a year Monday to Friday between 8am – 6pm.

Drop ins are available to all families with SEND children or without on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1pm - 3 pm.

How do you access this service?

Referrals for the specialist places may currently be made through the child development service, health practitioner or education key worker to the DCT.

Currently these places are only available following a Social Work assessment by the Westminster Disabled Children’s Team. Extra places can be purchased through parents/carers self funding.

2, 3 and 4 year old places can be obtained by direct contact with the nursery and discussion about level of support needs.

Commissioned places

There are a fixed number of places commissioned for Disabled children to use at Rainbows Nursery. This is a highly specialist service for the most complex children who require a short break.

How do we ensure the quality of this service?

The Rainbow nursery is Ofsted registered and inspected to ensure safety and safeguarding standards are met

Rainbow was successful in achieving the Early Years Quality Mark in January 2019, this  was obtained as a result of  a collection of evidence and an inspection.

There are regular monitoring meetings and visits from workers within the Council to ensure that standards are being maintained and any complaints and compliments are fed back to ensure continuous improvement. We are always seeking to listen to the families and young people who use our services to ensure that we are getting things right and that we are seeking to improve what we offer.  Training, supervision and appraisal systems are implemented for all staff. DBS, references, and safer recruitment practices are followed. Parents are involved in all recruitment.

What to do if you have a complaint?

Please advise the manager or leader in charge immediately if you have any concerns, complaints, suggestions for changes, or compliments.  You should be given an opportunity to talk to someone in charge and any immediate issues should be addressed as quickly as possible. Your details will be taken and your complaint will be investigated more fully by Anna or the manager on duty and you should expect to receive a response within 28 days.

Written complaints can be sent by letter or email to the above contact details.

Should you not be happy with the response that you have received to your complaint you can contact 020 8968 2690 and ask to speak to Sanchia Lyon the Head of Children Youth and Family Services (Early Years 0-5).

Can parents and young people buy this service as part of their SEND personal budget?

Families can purchase the specialist nursery places directly from the service at a cost of £24.74  per hour for children who need 1-1 support. All other specialist places can be purchased at a cost of £12.37 per hour.
