Ba Gua/Xing Yi

Classes take place at Pineapple Studios in Studio 11. Students do not have to pay an entrance fee to enter the building. Ba Gua is usually taught in this time slot unless enough experienced students are available and then Xing Yi will be taught. Ba Gua can be practiced by all levels of students, including beginners as well as those new to the martial arts. Ba Gua classes can be more physically demanding than Tai Chi classes, due to some increases in speed with which the form is practiced. Ba kua is easily recognised by its characteristic practice of circle walking and involves eight walks, eight changes and eight animal forms. Xing Yi is the most advanced of the arts practiced at the School not only due to it being more physically demanding than the others, but also due to its stripped down and straightforward nature, which makes it more difficult to grasp. Therefore, in our system, permission to practice Xing Yi has to be granted by an experienced teacher or instructor. The most traditional avenue towards attaining permission is to acquire two years of Tai Chi practice.
